Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum: What It’s Really Like + Tips for Visiting

WONDERING IF DOLLY’S LIFE OF MANY COLORS MUSEUM IS WORTH THE VISIT?
Dolly Parton has been a part of Tennessee for as long as I can remember, so when I heard she was opening a brand-new museum in downtown Nashville, I knew I wanted to experience it.
I went into Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum without knowing much about what was inside. I expected costumes, memorabilia, photos, and stories from Dolly’s life and career. What I wasn’t expecting was just how immersive and interactive the entire experience would be.
Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t know too much before I went. That sense of surprise and discovery ended up being one of my favorite parts.
If you’re planning your own visit, I don’t want to give everything away for you either. Instead, I’ll share what you can expect, a few of the moments that stood out to us, and the practical details that will make your visit easier, while leaving plenty for you to discover for yourself.
What Is Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum?

Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum is a brand-new museum dedicated to Dolly Parton’s life, career, and legacy. It opened in downtown Nashville in September 2026, along with Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel.
The museum takes up the entire third floor of the hotel and spans more than 20,000 square feet. It is the largest exhibit dedicated to Dolly’s life anywhere in the world.
Instead of simply displaying memorabilia, the museum uses immersive exhibits, videos, music, personal artifacts, and Dolly’s own stories to take you through her life. It covers everything from her childhood in the Smoky Mountains to her music, movies, family, philanthropy, and decades as an entertainer.
Although the museum is located inside SongTeller Hotel, you do not need to stay at the hotel to visit. The museum is a separate attraction with its own entrance and ticketed experience.
TRAVELISTA TIP: Want to experience even more of Dolly’s story while you’re in Nashville? Consider adding the Country Music Hall of Fame to your day. Dolly is featured throughout the museum, along with decades of country music history. This ticket combo is an easy way to add another music-focused experience to your Nashville itinerary.
Getting There, Parking + Finding the Museum Entrance

Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum is located in the heart of downtown Nashville, just a short walk from Broadway. The museum’s official address is 126 3rd Avenue North.
One thing that is important to know before you arrive is that you do not enter through the main entrance of Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel. The museum has its own dedicated entrance on 3rd Avenue.
It was actually very easy to spot once we knew where to look. Outside, there is a large, colorful Dolly mural along with plenty of pink and sparkly details that immediately make it feel like part of the experience.
The museum does not have its own parking lot. The closest recommended option is the public 211 Commerce Street Garage, although there are several other garages and lots within walking distance.
TRAVELISTA TIP: I personally prefer Metropolis parking garages when I’m downtown. Once you set up the app and add a payment method, you can simply drive in and out. It tracks your parking time, charges your card, and texts you a receipt. No ticket to grab or keep up with! For this visit, we used the Metropolis garage directly across Commerce Street from SongTeller Hotel. It made getting to and from the museum incredibly easy.
Because this is downtown Nashville, I recommend checking parking rates before you arrive and giving yourself some extra time. Prices and availability can change, especially when there is a concert, Predators game, or another big event downtown.
Once you reach the museum entrance, staff members are outside to help direct guests and check entry times. Since admission is timed, I would plan to arrive a little early rather than trying to walk up right at your scheduled time.
Tickets + What to Know Before You Go

Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum uses timed admission, so you’ll choose a date and entry time when purchasing your ticket.
I bought our tickets online before our visit, and I recommend doing the same. A limited number of same-day tickets may be available, but the museum recommends purchasing in advance since popular dates can sell out.
TRAVELISTA TIP: Buy your tickets ahead and think about what else you want to do downtown that day when choosing your entry time. Since tickets have timed admission, a little planning can make it much easier to build the museum into your Nashville itinerary.
Ticket prices vary depending on the date and ticket type you choose. There are also discounted tickets for children ages 6–12, while children 5 and under can visit free with a paid adult.
When we arrived for our scheduled time, we checked in at the small museum lobby and received wristbands. From there, staff staggered groups going upstairs rather than sending everyone into the museum at once.
I really liked this system once we were inside. There are several parts of the experience where you’ll want to stop and listen, watch, or take everything in. Staggering the groups helped keep those spaces from feeling overly crowded.
One thing I would keep in mind is that the museum mostly moves you forward through the experience. Once you leave certain areas, you may not be able to go back. Take your time rather than feeling like you need to rush to the next room.

What It’s Actually Like Inside Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum

From the moment you step inside Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum, it feels like much more than a collection of Dolly Parton memorabilia.
Your experience begins with Dolly herself welcoming you to the museum. From there, you move through different parts of her life, beginning with her childhood in the Smoky Mountains and following her journey to Nashville and eventually around the world.
I don’t want to tell you exactly what happens in each room because discovering it as you go is part of the fun. But expect a mix of personal artifacts, costumes, photos, music, videos, recreated spaces, and plenty of interactive elements.
One of the things I loved most was how much of Dolly’s story you actually hear rather than simply read. Throughout the museum, Dolly shares stories in her own voice. You’ll also hear from people who were part of her life and see clips from different stages of her career.
There are still plenty of artifacts and displays to stop and look at, but you don’t have to stand in front of one information panel after another to understand what you’re seeing. The storytelling is happening all around you.
Some of the experiences are incredibly immersive. At different points, we felt like we had stepped into the Smoky Mountains, old Nashville, and even life on the road with Dolly. There are also spaces dedicated to her movies, music, family, philanthropy, and the people she has worked with throughout her career.
One of the most meaningful parts for me was the Imagination Library area. My daughter received Imagination Library books from birth until she turned five, so that program was already a small part of our family’s story.
While we were there, Dolly began reading Llama Llama Red Pajama, which was one of my daughter’s favorite books from the program when she was little. It was such an unexpected full-circle moment and a reminder of how many families Dolly has touched in ways that go far beyond her music.
There are little details like that throughout the museum that are easy to miss if you rush. Some of my favorite things were details I almost walked right past. Take your time, look around, and don’t forget to look up every once in a while.
TRAVELISTA TIP: When you reach the Dollywood section, take a closer look at the tree and don’t forget to look up! The lanterns are filled with special details honoring Dolly’s family. It was one of my favorite little touches, and it would be easy to miss if you weren’t looking for it.
There is also one experience near the end that I definitely don’t want to spoil. I’ll just say that when a museum employee asks if you would like to attend a virtual concert, say yes! It ended up being one of the biggest surprises of our entire visit.
By the time we reached the end, I felt like I had learned a lot about Dolly without the experience ever feeling like a history lesson. It was personal, entertaining, emotional at times, and much more immersive than I expected.
What Makes Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum So Unique?

What surprised me most about Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum was how much it feels like Dolly is taking you through her story herself.
Her voice, music, videos, and stories are woven throughout the experience. Technology is used in some really creative ways, but it never felt like technology just for the sake of being impressive. It helps bring her memories and different parts of her life to life around you.
The attention to detail is also incredible! This is one of those places where it pays to slow down and really look around. There were several small details I almost missed because they weren’t necessarily the main focus of the room.
And visually, the museum feels completely Dolly.
There are shades of pink, flowers, butterflies, rhinestones, glitter, beautiful lighting, and plenty of color. Even the floors caught my attention in some areas. It is feminine, glamorous, and sometimes over-the-top in the best possible way.
TRAVELISTA TIP: No country music trip to Nashville is complete without the Grand Ole Opry! You can keep it simple with tickets to an Opry show, or splurge on the VIP experience for an extra-special Nashville night.
But underneath all that sparkle is a very personal story.
You learn about Dolly the entertainer, but you also get a much closer look at the people, places, and values that shaped her. Her family, her childhood in the Smoky Mountains, her relationship with Carl, her connection to her fans, and her desire to give back are all part of the story.
That combination is what made the museum stand out so much for me. It is beautiful and entertaining, but it also feels personal. By the end, I felt like I understood a little more about the person behind all those rhinestones.
