A Morning at the Murfreesboro Saturday Market
FRESH FLOWERS, LOCAL FINDS, AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE WAYS TO SPEND A WEEKEND MORNING IN DOWNTOWN MURFREESBORO.
One of my favorite things about living near downtown Murfreesboro is being able to walk down Main Street and spend a Saturday morning on the square.
I’ve been to the Murfreesboro Saturday Market several times, and I always enjoy seeing what’s there. Sometimes I go looking for something specific. Other times, I just walk around the square and see what I find.
If you’re thinking about visiting the Murfreesboro Saturday Market, I’m sharing what I’ve learned from my own visits, along with a few tips that can make your morning even better.
Spending the Morning at the Murfreesboro Saturday Market
The Murfreesboro Saturday Market takes over the downtown square on Saturday mornings. Vendors set up around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse, filling the parking spaces along the inner loop of the square.
TRAVELISTA TIP: Don’t only look at the booths lining the inside loop of the square. On my most recent visit, a balloon artist was set up closer to the courthouse. I have also seen local artists set up on the outside loop of the square too.
The setup makes it really easy to explore. You simply follow the loop around the courthouse, stopping at the booths that catch your attention along the way. The market isn’t so large that it feels overwhelming, but there is plenty to see.
The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts. You’ll see families with kids in strollers and wagons, people walking their dogs, and plenty of shoppers carrying fresh flowers and bags of goodies around the square. It feels busy and lively without feeling like a huge event you need hours to get through.
There can be more happening than just shopping, too. I’ve seen live music, a balloon artist making creations for kids, and even MTSU athletes set up with a basketball hoop and shooting baskets with children. What you’ll find can change from one Saturday to the next.
I usually walk the entire square at least twice. I’ll make one loop in one direction and then turn around and walk it again the opposite way. It sounds simple, but I almost always spot a booth or something interesting on that second trip around that I completely missed the first time.
What You’ll Find at the Market
The Murfreesboro Saturday Market feels more like a farmers market than a craft fair. Fresh food and locally grown products make up a big part of what you’ll find, with handmade goods and other local businesses mixed in.
There is usually a good variety of fresh produce, along with breads, baked goods, plants, flowers, and other locally made foods. I’ve bought sourdough bread several times, and on my most recent visit, I came home with a fresh chocolate croissant.
One of my favorite stops is a vendor that sells fresh vegetables and beautiful flower bouquets. The bouquets are generous, reasonably priced, and popular. I’ve watched the selection shrink quite a bit just while making my way around the square.
TRAVELISTA TIP: If you have your heart set on fresh flowers or another popular item, shop for it when you first see it. Don’t assume it will still be there after another loop around the market.
You’ll find plenty beyond food, too. I’ve seen handmade soaps, jewelry, woodworking, dog bandanas, succulents, and other locally made items. In the fall, you’ll also start seeing seasonal finds like mums and pumpkins. On my latest visit, one vendor even had stacks of three large pumpkins for $20.
Some established Murfreesboro businesses join the market as well. I’ve seen local favorites like The Soda Bar and Puckett’s alongside the smaller farmers and makers. The Soda Bar is especially fun if you’re bringing kids, with treats like ice cream, dirty sodas, sugar cookies, and paint-your-own cookie kits.
The vendors can change from week to week, which is part of the fun. On my most recent visit, I found a gourmet peanut butter vendor I hadn’t seen before. After trying a sample of the Cookie Jar flavor, I immediately understood why people were stopping. It was easily one of my favorite finds of the morning.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go
The Murfreesboro Saturday Market runs from May through October. For the 2026 season, the market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. It takes place around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse on the downtown square.
I prefer visiting earlier in the morning, especially during the summer. Tennessee mornings can get hot quickly, even though you’ll find some shade around the square. I also recommend bringing water and a reusable tote for anything you buy.
Going early can also give you a better selection. I’ve watched the fresh flower bouquets sell quickly during my visits. Main Street Murfreesboro has also reported items like fresh greens, eggs, and some meats selling out early.
TRAVELISTA TIP: The vendor lineup can change from week to week. Check the market information before you go if you’re looking for something specific. Main Street Murfreesboro publishes weekly market updates and vendor maps throughout the season.
Parking downtown is free on weekends. You’ll find street parking around downtown, along with two parking garages. The Bank of America lot just east of the square is also currently available for free parking.
The market itself is flat and wheelchair accessible. There are no stairs you need to navigate to make your way around the main loop. However, the walkway can get crowded between the vendor tents. Wheelchairs and scooters should still be able to navigate the market, but some areas may feel tight when it’s busy.
You’ll also see plenty of strollers and wagons. The market is both family- and pet-friendly, and I almost always see dogs while I’m there.
Before you leave, stop by the Main Street Murfreesboro information tent on the west side of the market. You can get information about the market and other things happening downtown.
I especially recommend grabbing their downtown restaurant list and map. There are some great restaurants and businesses tucked around downtown that are easy to miss.
Make the Most of Your Morning Downtown
One of the best parts about visiting the Saturday Market is that you’re already in the heart of downtown Murfreesboro. Once you’ve finished shopping, don’t feel like you have to head straight home.
I usually take some time to walk around the square and pop into a few of the local shops. On my most recent visit, I stopped at Marketplace Home & Gift. I even came home with a Jellycat my daughter had been wanting for months.
If you’re hungry, you have plenty of options within walking distance. Stop by Joanie’s or Puckett’s for breakfast. If you’re ready for lunch, try Domenico’s Italian Deli for a sandwich or Jack Brown’s for a burger.

The Murfreesboro Saturday Market is one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday morning downtown. I love walking around the square, seeing what’s new, and picking up a few things to bring home.
No two visits are exactly the same. The vendors change, the seasons bring different finds, and there’s usually something I didn’t expect to see.
